Local people and visitors from around the world come in their thousands
to see events such as "tossing
the caber", throwing weights, tug-o-war and many more various
strength and endurance tests. Highland
dancing (including the world famous "Highland Fling") and
bagpipe bands and competitions are also as popular today as they have been
for hundreds of years.
The games have existed throughout the last millennium and villages
have traditionally held games during a holiday period once a year. Oddly
enough the games were made more widely known by Queen Victoria in 1848
when she visited Braemar Games. Today, Queen Elizabeth still attends these
games and has done for the last fifty years.
